The soft totalitarianism of neo-Marxism is taking over the free world right now. We see tyrannical governments such as the UK, the EU (Germany is the worst), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and even the United States of America becoming increasingly authoritarian and finding ways to curtail free expression. Cancel culture has ravaged social media.
Neo-Marxism completely dominates academia. The infernal doctrines of queer theory, intersectionalism, diversity, inclusion, and equity dominate corporate America thanks to ESG scores that have been mandated by unelected overlords like Blackrock’s Larry Fink.
Many fragile millennials and Zoomers do not like the concept of free speech. Slogans like “speech has consequences” which reduces speech to a virus, have entered the zeitgeist. The very same people that talk about diversity have no tolerance for the only diversity that matters: viewpoint diversity.
Safetyism is on the rise as Orwellian trust and safety policies are everywhere. Being “safe” really means that you are protected from ideas that may challenge your worldview.
In 2013, British writer, actor, and comedian Rowan Atkinson found the courage to speak out against the tide of totalitarianism and gave a speech defending free speech. This speech is just as applicable today as it was back then.
