Only people living under a rock would not know that most basic human right of all — freedom of speech — is under relentless attack by the the regressive, woke, and Marxist left. The enemies of liberty believe that any threat to their power must be stopped at all costs and they’ll try to destroy anyone that challenges them.
The latest bumper sticker that the left uses in its war against freedom of speech is the following:
Speech has consequences
The radical left would have you believe that speech is inherently dangerous like running with scissors or driving while intoxicated. Both of these examples are inherently dangerous and certainly have consequences. But speech? Naturally, they view their speech as wonderful and any speech they don’t agree with is labeled as bad.
No matter what you say, someone, somewhere will be offended by it. No one has the right not to be offended. Freedom of speech has to be absolute. If not, then who decides what is free and not free?
One of the strengths in our civilization is the ability to propose new ideas and invent new ways of solving problems. Without freedom to think and speak unhindered, progress is impossible. Every human advancement, medical discovery, and scientific breakthrough was made possible because brave people dared to think outside the box of conventional wisdom.
There was a time when the left believed in challenging the status quo and the powerful. Apple’s famous Think Different video comes to mind:
Now that the left controls all institutions and has become the establishment, they don’t want you to think different. Instead they want you to conform.
The concept of so-called hate speech is another devious invention of the censorious left. There is no such thing as hate speech, there is only speech. It is either free or it isn’t. Another problem with the concept of hate speech is: who decides what is hate speech?
Besides, feelings of love and hate are useful and necessary components of humanity that serve their purpose when needed. Even the wisdom found in the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes validates both as legitimate expressions:
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace…

So not only does speech have “consequences”, now failing not to speak equates to “violence.” This is off the scale in the realm of cognitive dissonance. No matter what you say, the regressive left has a mindless bumper sticker slogan at the ready. Ask any progressive NPC to amplify their rationale and they are tongue tied or repeat other bumper sticker slogans like brainwashed cult members.
Classic liberalism that was born during the Enlightenment believes in free speech and cherishes viewpoint diversity. The power hungry woke and Marxist left — many who are millennials raised by overprotected parents do not. A recent poll of millenials in 2019 unearthed some terrifying results: most millennials don’t believe in free speech.
Too many millennials raised by helicopter and lawnmower parents are ill-equipped intellectually to appreciate viewpoint diversity that challenges their stunted worldview. This is a generation of lazy, spoiled, virtue signaling brats that has never experienced any deprivation or has any grasp of authentic virtue.
These millennial slackers would find President’s Kennedy’s famous request: “ask not, what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country…” both repugnant and onerous. No wonder these indolent and vacuous children are easy prey for neo-Marxist professors who are only to eager to corrupt them with the false religion of wokeness and identity politics.

Not everyone on the left has been bewitched by the spell of wokeness. Comedian and pundit Bill Maher is expressing an increasing annoyance with the stupidity of wokeness. Even leftist journalist Mat Taibbi of Rolling Stone fame — no friend of conservatives — is worried about the current condition of this most cherished of all human rights.

The Left supported free speech until they got what they wanted: institutional and cultural power. Now they want to do away with it because it threatens them. They will disguise their desire to do so with claims of “It’s to protect you!” but ultimately, it’s all about them and eliminating their opposition.
This is 100% truth. When you deconstruct everything the left does and peel away every layer from the onion, you see the reality that they are only concerned about power and controlling people’s lives. Power is their drug. Obtaining power and the tyranny that results, is their ultimate goal. They must be resisted and they must be stopped.
Founding Father and polymath Benjamin Franklin knew full well the importance of free speech:
Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins.
The wise words of President Reagan are a dire warning for our troubled times:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
Even Noam Chomsky, a revered figure on the left, believes in free speech:
If we don’t believe in free expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.
